Intensives

Guidance On Every Step of the Way

Intensives are an opportunity to explore the root causes of self-defeating patterns, release painful emotions, reclaim personal power, and make progress that sticks by acquiring the tools necessary to make positive change.  This rapid immersion will give you solid ground to support sustained growth and healing.

Personal Intensive

Pink Lotus Flower

Valuing and creating a healthy relationship with one's self is an important component of healing from emotional wounds.  Less than nurturing experiences in childhood cause us to adapt and become who we think will please others rather than discovering our authentic self.

Your Personal Intensive will be designed specifically for you and take place over one or two days (depending upon your goals).  It is a dynamic educational and experiential process that will help you understand how your earlier life experience affects your current life. You will begin the process of resolving past hurts that have kept you stuck in unproductive and destructive patterns (depression, anxiety, addictions, eating disorders and painful relationships).  Various therapy modalities will be integrated to design a personal intensive that best fits your needs and goals.

The Intensive takes place from 9am-4:30pm each day.

Couples Intensive

Holding Hands in the Sunshine

I have combined my thousands of hours of work as a therapist with this proven intensive system so I can help you and your spouse shortcut hours and even years of trial and error and slow progress.  I specialize in giving you the exact tools and a plan to overcome the well-known patterns that drive couples apart.

Is a Relationship Intensive Right for You?

  • Are you and your spouse stuck in endless loops that go nowhere?

  • Does every day feel like an uphill battle?

  • Are you exhausted from trying to make your relationship work?

  • Would you like to give your marriage the gift of stepping away from your day-to-day environment and into the focused space of a couples retreat experience to heal your relationship and create the loving and supportive connection you desire?

  • If you need serious change in your relationship, and you want it fast, you may need more than traditional couples therapy.  You may need a relationship intensive.

An Intensive is Different from Regular Therapy Because …

  • Regular sessions can run out of time before making much progress.  An Intensive is an immersive, private, two-day personalized experience.

  • Working closely over a short, intense period of time helps us get more done in two days than you might get over one year and creates momentum you can use when you return home.

  • You will discover the pieces you have been missing including how your mind is wired to keep you stuck, and what you can finally do about it.

  • You will build the skills to predict where you get stuck and not only get “unstuck”, but create something better.

  • A customized workbook of tools and guidelines is provided to keep you from doing things the old way and maximize the investment you have made in your relationship.

Together We Can

  • Quickly get to the heart of recurring arguments so you can understand what sets off anger and keeps the conflict going.

  • Move from blame to change—a crucial shift in thinking that will transform the way you relate to one another.

  • Learn more about the reactions that are triggered in your brain when you disagree—and how you can master your reactions for clearer, more loving communication.

  • Create an effective roadmap to move you toward deeper empathy and understanding.

Marriage and Relationship Intensive FAQ:

Where does the Intensive take place?

You will meet with me in my office in the Cathedral Hill Neighborhood of Saint Paul which is just over 8 miles from the Minneapolis Saint Paul Airport (MSP) – approximately a 17-minute drive.  Most couples prefer a 2-day Friday/Saturday retreat, but I am often able to schedule sessions during the week to accommodate busy lives.  If you would like to enhance the experience, there are Bed and Breakfasts within walking distance and the area is filled with delightful restaurants. I am happy to provide a list of places for you to explore.

What’s the schedule like?

Each day begins at 9:00 a.m., with refreshing breaks in the morning and afternoon, plus a 90-minute lunch to give you plenty of time to rest and recharge your batteries.  Our 4:30 p.m. end time gives you a full evening to relax and return feeling refreshed the next day.

How can we keep making progress after we return home?

You will leave your Couples Intensive with a manual filled with the powerful exercises we practiced together.  Your personalized guidebook empowers you to continue creating new capacities to support the fulfilling and nourishing connection you both want.

Group Intensive

Sparklers

The Healing Journey is a small group three-day dynamic educational and experiential process that will help you understand how your earlier life experience affects your current life. You will learn how to deal with emotions connected to less than nurturing events, and begin the process of resolving past hurts that have kept you stuck in unproductive and destructive patterns (depression, anxiety, addictions, eating disorders and painful relationships).  The focus is not on blaming caregivers, but rather healing the trauma of any past events impacting adult life. This program is based on the groundbreaking work of Pia Mellody and utilizes her treatment model for healing.

Phase 1 - Educational

Participants will be presented with an overview of Pia’s model regarding childhood trauma, and the impact unresolved trauma has on current relationships, including relationship with self.  Participants will begin to understand the relationship between the child and the adult, as perceived by the child. It is from these relationships that children internalize their sense/source of value and worth.

Phase 2 - Debriefing

With the help of the therapist, participants will explore the less-than-nurturing and/or abusive recollected childhood experiences with a focus on the associated emotions.

Phase 3 - Experiential

Guided by the therapist, participants move through a series of specific processes which help to identify and heal childhood relational trauma issues.  In this safe and nurturing environment, participants often release painful emotions and begin the process of reclaiming their rights and personal power.

Phase 4 - Ongoing healing

Participants will receive a set of strategies, tools and resources to use on a daily basis for ongoing recovery, self empowerment and healing.

Due to the intensive nature of the work, the intensive is limited to 4 participants.  The Program takes place from 9am-approximately 6pm each day.
